Hearthstone’s Next Expansion Will Release With Only Four Missions, Rest Will Arrive Later

Knights of the Frozen Throne, the next expansion pack for Hearthstone, will see the return of solo adventures in a major way when it releases this week.

As previously announced, the Battle for Icecrown will be absolutely free of charge. It will feature a prologue and two wings with three bosses, followed by a grand showdown against the Lich King. Completing the prologue mission will reward players with a free random legendary hero card, while surviving the remaining wings will net a single Knights of the Frozen Throne card pack each. Besides the lord of the Scourge, expect to face Blood Queen Lana’thel, Professor Putricide, Sindragosa, Deathbringer Saurfang, Lord Marrowgar, and Lady Deathwhisper.

It was previously assumed that all eight solo adventures, or missions, will be available from the first day when Hearthstone receives its new expansion pack. That is not the case, and it was apparently explained last month by game director Ben Brode but the information went unnoticed.

Posting on Reddit, a player shared that Hearthstone will only feature the first four solo adventures at launch. The remaining adventures, which includes the battle against the Lich King, will rolled out over the next couple of weeks.

Without any further clarification we can only assume that Blizzard will release two new adventures every week after the global launch. There is also the matter of free versus premium. The solo adventures of the new expansion pack will be free of charge. However, it is possible that those who pre-order Knights of the Frozen Throne will get access to all the adventures from the first day, while the ones playing for free must wait two weeks before stepping foot inside the deeper sections of the citadel.

Knights of the Frozen Throne will release for Hearthstone on August 10, featuring 135 new cards.
