As a friendly reminder for the card-playing community, the new expansion pack for Hearthstone is scheduled to officially launch after a couple of days.
Blizzard was fairly vague when it hinted that Knights of the Frozen Throne would become available worldwide in the middle of the month. It was confirmed over the weekend that it will arrive sooner on August 10.
The theme of the new expansion pack for Hearthstone explores the possibility of Arthas, the Lich King, successfully defeating all the heroes of Warcraft at Icecrown Citadel and raising them to do his bidding with the malicious powers of Frostmourne. On a lighter side, the developer recently released a video as part of a series to introduce the villain for those not quite familiar with the Warcraft lore.
One key mechanic being introduced by Knights of the Frozen Throne is in the form of new legendary hero cards that replace the current nine playable heroes with powerful Death Knight versions. These grant new modified abilities and can essentially turn the tide of battle.
Each Death Knight was once a mighty hero of Azeroth—but after the Lich King raises a hero from the dead, they gain unimaginable strength from beyond the grave. In Knights of the Frozen Throne, each of Hearthstone’s nine heroes has embraced the Lich King’s dark power to serve him as a Legendary Death Knight Hero card! Despite their transformation, they have not fallen completely under the Lich King’s sway, so it’ll be up to you to decide how to wield the awesome abilities at their command.
Knights of the Frozen Throne will feature 135 new cards. The Blizzard Shop is still taking pre-orders. For $49.99, you will receive 50 card packs of the new expansion. In addition, owners will get access to the “soul-devouring” Frostmourne card back. There is still time to secure an early purchase before the content goes live later this week.
