PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds took the gaming world by storm and is currently the hot thing in the game industry. While the game’s Battle Royale concept is not new but Bluehole Studio has definitely redefined it. The game has surpassed GTA V and Fallout 4 in Steam charts and is looking to surpass CS: GO too.
However, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is not the only option for players who are looking to get into Battle Royale as there are several games that came before or after PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. However, these games offer a different spin on the Battle Royale formula and that is exactly what makes them unique.
So here we will list the games that are best alternatives to the widely popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. However, how active the community is, varies game to game.
DayZ: Battle Royale
One can’t ignore the influence of DayZ on PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. DayZ came into existence long before PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Brendan Greene, the creator of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, was a lead designer on DayZ.
However, in 2013 DayZ went stand alone from an Arma 2 mod and Brendan Greene went on to work on PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
The Culling is an alternative to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds but it is much smaller in scale with only 16 players battling it out to be victorious. The game also offers an 8 player Lightning Mode which results in fast paced matches.
However, there are enough features in the game that set it apart from Battlegrounds like its crafting system, ability to set traps and perks which are absent in Battlegrounds. The game also offers a wider range of melee weapons which obviously players can use to eliminate other players.
The game features a dystopian game show theme which also sets it apart from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and offers much wider style.
Ark: Survival of the Fittest
Ark: Survival Evolved is also an early access title which was supposed to launch this month but has been delayed. The game features a prehistoric theme, however, initially the game was split into two parts Ark: Survival Evolved and Ark: Survival of the Fittest but were merged back in.
Ark: Survival of the Fittest puts 72 players against one another and players can play either in solo or can form tribes. However, the game’s dinosaur theme changes a lot in the usual battle royale formula. Players have to look out for “evolution events” like acid rain, extreme cold, and dense fog which are as much dangerous as the enemy.
H1Z1: King Of The Kill
This is another alternative to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds which was split into two. H1Z1: Just Survive and H1Z1: King of the Kill and the latter one being the one featuring Battle Royale. H1Z1: King Of The Kill offers battle royale-style deathmatch action.
The game is quite similar to Battlegrounds as players have to land using a parachute and then look for weapons and then try and survive against other players. However, the game is much more arcadey compared to Battlegrounds.
Rust: Battle Royale
Rust: Battle Royal is not an official game from the Rust developer instead there are some unofficial servers which run Rust: Battle Royale. Players start off with nothing and we mean nothing at all not even clothes and players have to collect loot within the ever constricting area.
Players will have to take out other players in order to survive but the game also allows players to form alliances, however, even then there will only be one winner.
So this was our list games that are best alternatives to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Did we miss any game that should be on this list? Let us know in the comments.
