Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is just over a month away from launch and as the launch is getting closer, Naughty Dog has been revealing new details. Naughty Dog has already assured that Uncharted series is still alive and there is no DLC planned for the game. Now, the studio has hinted that they can spin-off the upcoming game.
Fans of the Uncharted series have been wondering if Naughty Dog will consider a spin-off based on the upcoming Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Writer Scherr told VentureBeat that the studio might spin-off the game in future but, currently, they don’t have any plans for it.
We could. One fun thing about the series, and about the genre in general, is that we’re drawing from the idea of this whole world out there of rogues and thieves and treasure hunters and all these things they do with and against each other. Potentially we could spin this off. But right now we’re just focusing on getting this out the door, and then we’re focusing on Last of Us Part II. There are no plans for anything beyond this.
He further added that Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will bring in a new audience to the Uncharted franchise along with the existing ones, thanks to its new protagonist, Chloe Frazier.
However, the future of the Uncharted franchise is uncertain as the studio will be taking a break from it for the time being. According to studio co-president, Evan Wells, another Uncharted game from Naughty Dog is very unlikely after Uncharted: The Lost Legacy as the studio has a lot of stuff going on for it.
Also, Naughty Dog has revealed that The Lost Legacy was not planned as standalone from the start of its development. The team “contemplated” Uncharted 5.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is scheduled to launch on August 22, 2017, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
