Nintendo: Nintendo Switch Shipped 4.7 Million Units By June 30, Software Sales Stand At 13.60 Million Units
Nintendo Switch has been selling like hot cakes since its launch in March and Nintendo is very happy about it. Naturally, the hybrid console has got the attention of third-party devs and publishers with Ubisoft announcing more game for Switch soon and EA bringing FIFA 18, things are looking good for Switch. Now, Nintendo has revealed that Switch has reached a new sales milestone.
During the recent financial results for Nintendo’s first quarter of its fiscal year, Nintendo revealed that it has shipped 4.7 million units of Nintendo Switch by June 30, 2017. As for the software sales for the hybrid console, they stand at 13.60 million units of which 3.92 million units were Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and 3.54 million units were Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Switch has been very successful for Nintendo and the company has very high expectations from its hybrid console. According to Nintendo, it wants Nintendo Switch to match 100 million units install base of the Wii console saying “The truth is we want to raise the installed base of Nintendo Switch up to the same level as Wii”.
Also, according to a recent report, Nintendo has also increased the production of Switch to 18 million for the current fiscal year. According to the report, Nintendo is gunning for an even higher sales figure for its current fiscal year and aims to produce 18 million units by the end of this fiscal year.
However, Nintendo is facing parts shortages for its Hybrid console. According to a report, there is an industrywide shortage of components used in “smartphones, computer servers, and other digital devices”.
The main components that are short are the NAND Flash Memory chips for data storage, LCD displays, and “tiny motors that enable the Switch’s hand-held controllers to imitate the feel of an ice cube shaking in a glass”.
