Take Two Interactive Will Explore Mobile and Asia This Fiscal Year
Take Two Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, will be exploring mobile platform this fiscal year. According to CEO Todd CEO Strauss Zelnick, they will look at mobile and Asia. Their strategy seems to be formed around introducing mobile versions NBA 2K and WWE 2K on mobile in Asia.
Take-Two Interactive made a fortune with Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. However, the overall company is still cutting it very thin which could be part of the reason why they are looking to diversify their revenue channels.
Our goal is to grow and to continue focusing on a few key areas. We have NBA and WWE, we have our strategy business with Firaxis, we have a triple-A business. We are going to look at mobile and on Asia. Those six buckets are our key focus areas and growth opportunities.
I don’t think there’s radical changes in the strategy. Ideally, we will have one triple-A title every single year.
Zelnick stated that he is not skeptical about the market but skeptical about one’s ability to participate in the market. What’s interesting is that before jumping into mobile the company might dip its hands into handhelds. In a previous statement, Take Two mentioned that it is excited about Nintendo Switch. The publisher is supporting Nintendo Switch with NBA 2K18.
But so far there are no plans to port Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption to Nintendo Switch, even though they plan to release at least one AAA- title annually. Other properties like WWE 2K may also arrive on Nintendo Switch.
