Extinction, ever since its announcement, has been compared to the highly popular Attack on Titan. Many believe that the inspiration for Extinction was undoubtedly taken from Attack on Titan but according to the developer, Iron Galaxy, that is not the case.
Derek Neal, Extinction’s Executive Producer, stated that while they are flattered to be compared to Attack on Titan, the differences between the two will become clearer over time. Moreover, he stated that they wanted to create a classic David and Goliath experience for the players.
The inspiration for Extinction was always to recreate the classic David vs. Goliath experience in real time, skill-based combat. Although we’re flattered by the comparisons to Attack on Titan, we’re not deliberately taking anything from that franchise, and as time goes on we believe the differences between the franchises will become clearer and clearer.
While major differences are yet to be discussed there is one that we can see with our own eyes. As we see more of the game in the future, we would be in a better position compare it with Attack in Titan and see where it stands. Extinction is slated for release in 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Iron Galaxy announced the title a couple of weeks before E3 2017. Developers are also considering support for PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. A Nintendo Switch version, on the other hand, is more likely to happen before any kind of support.
We were also able to confirm that there are different side activities and modes available to the players, apart from the main campaign. We have a horde mode, custom battle mode, and daily challenges etc.
