While Insomniac’s Spider-Man game is still at least a year away with no fixed release date, the developers have already treated fans to some gameplay footage. As is pretty much always the case, some fans took it upon themselves to compare the graphics of the game to the last Spiderman game, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which was released back in 2014.
While The Amazing Spider-Man 2 certainly holds its own, especially since it is running on PS4 Pro with Boost mode enabled, even in its current early development stage, Insomniac’s Spider-Man easily takes the cake when it comes to quality. Of course, that is to be expected since there is a 3-year gap between both games and graphics technology has advanced considerably during this time.
Right from the start, one thing, which is truly important in a Spider-Man game is the web slinging and it really stands out in the upcoming game thanks to the new and improved web physics which give them a look of actual ropes instead of solid lines. The world detail, draw distance and lighting quality are also superb in the new game and it is possible the quality will actually improve by the time the game is released.
Despite looking amazing, Insomniac’s Spider-Man game will unfortunately not be running at 60 frames per second as Insomniac has already confirmed 1080p60 is not possible even on the powerful PS4 Pro console. Whether the Xbox One X performs better or not in this case is also impossible to test since the game is and will remain a true PS4 exclusive.
Insomniac’s Spider-Man game will be releasing sometime in 2018 and tell an original story where Peter has been working as the protector of New York City for 8 years. The game will feature an open world New York City with a map size considerably larger than Sunset Overdrive, Insomniac’s last open world game.
