When it comes to entry-level CPUs, there are two options that you can go for, the Intel i3 7100 and the Intel Pentium G4560. These are pretty cheap and the Pentium G4560 has got all the praise in the world for its low price and the performance that it has to offer. Then again you have AMD Ryzen 3 coming out this month and Intel Coffee Lake series sometime later on. What to do?
The Intel Pentium G4560 is dirt cheap and it has 2 cores and 2 threads to offer. That is the same as the Intel i3 7100. Hence people are often confused regarding which one of these CPUs they should go for as the Intel i3 7100 does cost a little more than the Intel Pentium G4560. The Intel Pentium G4560 has been so popular recently that it is hard to get your hand on one of these CPUs.
There were rumors that Intel is producing less Intel Pentium G4560 CPUs so that they do not affect the sales of the Intel i3 7100 CPUs. Later on, Intel said that there was no such limitation in production and that the shortage of Intel Pentium G4560 CPUs was due to the mining boom. This does make sense but we will never know for sure.
While the Intel Pentium G4560 is great value for money, it is unlikely that you will be able to get your hands on one. The Intel i3 7100 is the next best option. But that might not be so. With AMD Ryzen 3 coming out you might want to wait before getting a new entry-level CPU. While the Intel i3 7100 has 2 cores and 2 threads, the AMD Ryzen 3 1200 has 4 cores and 4 threads.
That is double what you get with the Intel i3 7100. AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and AMD Ryzen 3 1300X will be hitting the shelves on the 27th of this month. One might argue that Intel will also be introducing the Intel Coffee Lake series and that argument would be valid if we knew when the Intel Coffee Lake i3 CPUs were coming out.
With AMD Ryzen 3, we know for sure when we will be able to get our hands on one. Looking at all the information that we have on Intel Coffee Lake, we know that the K-series SKUs will be coming out first and the other variants will hit the market later on, most likely in early 2018. Having that said I would recommend waiting for AMD Ryzen 3 to come out.
Even if we give Coffee Lake the benefit of doubt, we know that the upcoming Intel Coffee Lake i3 CPUs will have 4 cores. Again AMD Ryzen 3 comes up on top with 4 additional threads as i3 CPUs will not feature hyperthreading. AMD Ryzen is now, Intel will be behind even with the new i3 CPUs with double the cores.
Let us know what you think about our comparison between the AMD Ryzen 3, Intel i3 7100, Intel Coffee Lake and Intel Pentium G4560 and which CPU you are going to go with.
