The Evil Within 2 was announced at E3 2017 and will continue the story from where it left off. The game once again has Shinji Mikami at the helm which means you can expect an authentic survival horror experience. The Evil Within 2 is being developed by Tango Gameworks, the same studio that previously brought us the original third-person psychological survival horror game back in 2014.
The Evil Within 2 is a direct sequel but is based on events that precede the first game. Sebastian Castellanos is back and must face his demons once again. However, what is new? What can we expect in The Evil Within 2?
A More Personal Story
Years ago, Castellanos daughter Lilly dies in a fire and the story this time revolves around a twisted world where he will face the true demons of his past as well as secrets of her daughter’s death.
Lily, Lily, Lily
Those who played the first game would know that while STEM merges different minds, one remains as the core. The Evil Within 2 is set in Union, a crumbling city built using the mind of Lily. It is implied that Castellanos will not only have to deal with all sorts of untold evil but also demons created by his daughter. Hence, the narrative will have its fair share of emotional junctures.
Departure from Linear Design
According to Tango Gameworks, the sequel will feature claustrophobic environments similar to the first installment. It will, though, depart from the linear design and feature a few areas that allow players to explore at their own pace. Expect side-quests and several secrets that offer clues to uncovering the motive of Mobius.
The game will no rely less on branching options and more on good-story telling and balanced gameplay.
Communicate With the World
Our lead character Castellanos has a new communicator device which will allow him to access the real world and process information fed directly by Kidman. The device will act as a guide through the Union, helping locate points of interest. The device may also allow him to communicate with his daughter as teased by the developer.
Graphical Improvements and Consistent Performance
The first game wasn’t the best-looking one and it has performance issues on PC. However, the second title is expected to use id 6 Engine that offers better visual fidelity and performance.
