4A Games: We Didn’t Believe Metro Exodus Was Possible Three Years Ago

4A Games is yet to announce the release date for Metro Exodus but, have opened to talk about the game and why they didn't talk about it before the reveal.

Metro Exodus was revealed at Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference and fans are excited to know more about the game. While 4A Games is yet to announce the release date for the game but, they have opened up to talk about the upcoming game and why they didn’t talk about it before the reveal.

Speaking with Polygon, Creative Director Andriy Prokhorov talked about why they kept the game a secret for so long. According to Andriy, the studio did not believe that developing Metro Exodus was possible three years ago and that is why they kept it a secret.

Why have we kept silent for so long?. Because three years ago, we thought this game was almost impossible.

It’s really hard work, because [Glukhovsky] is very passionate in person. He’s always trying to get us to do more. ‘Let’s do that!’ Well, you know, it’s technically not impossible, but it’s just not possible. ‘But why?!

In related news, the gameplay demo showcased at E3 2017 for the game gave an impression that Metro Exodus will be an open-world title. However, 4A Games has clarified that while the game is inspired by Stalker but, the game will remain linear.

First and foremost we’re not moving away from the classic linear Metro gameplay. We still have that, but what we’re doing with this new gameplay is more like sandbox survival.

Metro Exodus in an upcoming first-person horror survival game in development at 4A Games and will launch sometime in 2018 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
