Xbox One X is Going to Have a Hard Time Against Nintendo Switch and PS4

Xbox One X was announced last year at E3 2016 and fully shown this year at E3 2017. The maker, Microsoft, is offering True 4K gaming in most games for $499.99. They went as far as calling it an “uncomparable box.” However, an DFC analyst believes that the company is going to have a hard time selling the X.

According to DFC analyst David Cole, Microsoft is targeting a very small piece of the market. The company wants to sell Xbox One X to those who want higher graphical fidelity and don’t want to spend money on a PC. However, Cole predicts that even though 4K TVs are seeing a boost in sales, Xbox One X is not something many would be interested in. Xbox One X is going to have a hard time against the value Nintendo Switch and PS4 are offering.

Xbox One X is an expensive system designed to appeal to a fairly narrow demographic of gamers who want high-quality graphics but do not want to spend money on a high-end PC. The challenge is that is a fairly small addressable market, even as sales of 4k television sets start to soar. Both the Nintendo Switch or Sony PlayStation 4 offers a very strong value proposition that consumers seem to be flocking to

The price was always going to be a major factor but analysts are not convinced. Moreover, releasing Xbox One this year might not be the best idea as it pushes the ball into PlayStation 5’s court.
