Open World Setting Not Suitable for God of War PS4; Cory Barlog

God of War 4 was announced at E3 2016 and ever since its reveal part of the community speculated an open world setting. However, that won’t be the case as we now know. According to Cory Barlog, God of War PS4 is not going to be an open world game.

The upcoming God of War title is a contained experience similar to previous titles. God of War has evolved in a number of ways; camera angle, combat dynamics, and story are just of the things getting overhauled.

I knew right away that I did not want to make an open world game. I did not want to make a game in which people felt like they were doing a checklist of things.

The story, gameplay, setting, and combat dynamics are going to compliment each other, said Cory Barlog. Every change and addition to the game is going to be meaningful. For instance, the Blades of Chaos, Kratos’ weapon of choice won’t be at his disposal this time.

The blades represent a very dark time in Kratos’ life and he is trying to put it all behind him. The Chains of Chaos needed to go in order for him to move on and have a different life. Chains aren’t just a weapon to Kratos, they are his Scarlet Letter, says Cory Barlog.

Previously, Cory Barlog confirmed the game will not hold back at all when it comes to gore since the game takes place in a very violent time. God of War PS4 already has 18+ rating.

God of War PS4 is releasing on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro in early 2018.
