Sony PS5 Will Have A Discrete GPU Instead Of An APU?
Now that the Microsoft Xbox One X has been announced and will be coming to the market soon, all eyes are on Sony. People are waiting to see what Sony has to offer and the Sony PS5 is what people are expecting to be announced sometime soon. Here we are going to talk about some information regarding the Sony PS5 that has been floating around.
Sony Entertainment North America general manager – Hawn Layden said that the next generation console will come out according to the traditional console lifecycle which is about 5-7 years. Seeing how the PS4 came out in late 2013 it is unlikely that there will be a new console coming to market next year.
We are also getting information regarding the hardware of the Sony PS5 and sources claim that the next generation console from Sony will ditch the APU in favor of a discrete GPU. Having that said, this would allow the console to have much greater graphical power but will also increase power consumption.
Sony’s Shawn Layden was also asked about PS4 Pro-only titles and this is what he had to say about that:
“That will never happen! With the Playstation 4 Pro we have for the first time implemented this kind of innovation within the life cycle of a console. The Pro is really only to offer advantages such as 4K resolutions and HMD for players who can and want to use that. Each of our games will continue to run on the classic PS4 and possibly slightly better on the Pro”
Seeing how the Sony PS5 will come out according to the console cycle and Sony has no intentions of picking up the pace it is possible that Sony will not be competing with the Microsoft Xbox One X. This is very interesting.
