Take-Two and OpenIV are in the limelight across the modding community and currently, the creator of Grand Theft Auto V is facing a backlash from PC gamers. The company shutting down this popular modding tool didn’t sit well with the gaming community and it shows, reviews on Steam for GTAV took a downward spiral.
Take-Two believes that mods created by OpenIV are causing issues for player experience in GTA Online. According to Take-Two, malicious mods are created that are causing issues for the players. However, what’s interesting is that OpenIV mods can’t access GTA Online, so it is unclear just how they are creating problems.
Take-Two’s actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately, OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players.
It is a fact that you can not access GTA Online if you altered the game. Here’s what happens if you try to access GTA Online with an OpenIV mod installed.
The creators of OpenIV themselves denied Take-Two’s accusations but they won’t be fighting the publisher in court. According to the creators of OpenIV, facing such a big company in court won’t end result in a fruitful outcome. Take-Two needs to clarify just how and what mods are affecting the game because the way it stands right now, OpenIV is not affecting GTA Online.
Negative Steam reviews are denting the game’s and Take-Two reputation.
