God of War is a dark series, as you could probably tell if you’ve played the games before. Apparently, Sony Santa Monica cast Atreus’s actor in the upcoming God of War game with that in mind. And, considering the world that the game is going to take place in, it’s a good choice.
The kid that portrays Atreus in God of War for the Playstation 4 is named Sunny Suljic, and was picked for the contrast that he has in his face that according to Cory Barlog made him perfect to portray Atreus. Mainly, that while he had the characteristic innocent baby blue eyes, he also looked like he’d seen things.
Growing up as Kratos’s kid can’t be easy, as we saw in the E3 2016 gameplay for God of War. Not only do you have to deal with a traumatized, psychotic Spartan, but you also have to deal with a huge number of monsters that can attack you out of nowhere.
According to Barlog, God of War’s story will be working Atreus’s actor’s expression for all its worth; the story will focus not only on Kratos learning how to become human (since he’s Zeus’s son and therefore a demigod), but on Atreus learning how to become a god.
Atreus’s actor will hopefully be able to portray Atreus in a satisfactory manner, and what exactly the new God of War’s story ends up being like remains to be seen. However, with what we’ve heard of from Sony Santa Monica about the story, it seems like the story of the game won’t be one of revenge unlike the entirety of the previous part of the franchise.
We’ll be able to see a lot more about Atreus and the story of God of War for the Playstation 4 when the game comes out in 2018 for the Playstation 4.
