Even though Nathan Drake’s story has ended with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy may be the end, Naughty Dog has started planting doubts. As one of their flagship series, Naughty Dog has started to imply that the expansion won’t be the end of Uncharted as a franchise.
The possibility of the Uncharted franchise not ending with The Lost Legacy comes from Shaun Escayg, the creative director and writer of the DLC. According to the interview he gave with Eurogamer, Escayg revealed that before they settled on Chloe and Nadine they also entertained stories starring Sully, Cutter, and more.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy doesn’t focus on Nathan Drake, instead being a ten-hour adventure featuring Nadine Ross and Chloe Frazer as they go on an adventure to find an Indian artifact known as the Tusk of Ganesh. If these two major characters can get their own game, even if it’s short, who’s to say that other characters can’t?
Considering Uncharted is all about treasure-hunting, exploration, and history, there are a lot of different places that subsequent, non-Nathan focused Uncharted games can go after Uncharted: The Lost Legacy releases. Not to mention there’s also a ton of different characters that have interacted with Nathan over the course of his games.
While there are a ton of Uncharted fans that would want to see a new Uncharted game (even if it doesn’t feature Nathan Drake), it all depends on what Naughty Dog wants to do in the future. We could get more Uncharted spin-off stories after the studio gets done with The Last Of Us 2, or we never could.
In the meantime, however, fans of the franchise can be on the lookout for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which will be coming out exclusively for the Playstation 4 and Playstation 4 Pro on August 2.
