Microsft’s E3 press conference was full of surprises as a lot of titles were revealed at the event. However, only a handful of those titles were Xbox exclusives. Recently, Microsoft listed a job to work on an open-world new Xbox IP that will be similar to Horizon Zero Dawn. Now, a report has emerged suggesting the title is in development at Playground Games.
The report comes from an Italian site, who claims that insider sources have revealed to them that Playground Games, the developer behind Forza Horizon series, is working on the new open-world IP for Xbox One. According to the report, the studio has already started recruiting for the new Xbox IP since last year.
While it may seem far-fetched but, it actually makes sense. Earlier this year the studio revealed that it is working on an open-world non-racing title. According to founder and creative director, Ralph Fulton, the team has become quite good at developing racing games but they want to prove themselves in a different genre.
We feel like we’ve become pretty good at racing games over the years. We can always strive to get better but we’d love to prove ourselves in a different genre. That’s another goal of Project 2, to allow us to do that. We’re going to need to hire some very talented people with experience that we don’t have.
Furthermore, Xbox head Phil Spencer has revealed that Microsoft has signed multiple game deals with studios but the games will come out in 2-3 years.
It would be interesting to see an open-world exclusive title for Xbox One from Playground Games unless it gets canceled.
