“We Had No Clue” What Darkness Was In Destiny, Bungie Admits

Destiny had flaws when it launched and one the flaws was that a big chunk of the game’s lore was in Grimoires. While Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 lore will not a be part of Grimoires but, the first game has a lot of them. The lore also does not explain the game’s antagonist very well also as The Darkness is very vague and undefined in Destiny.

While The Darkness is pretty vague and undefined but, there is a reason behind the Darkness being mysterious as Bungie itself also had no clue what The Darkness was in the first game. Speaking with Kotaku, Luke Smith, director of The Taken King and the upcoming Destiny confirmed it.

So, I think that at a point, just totally candidly? We had no idea what it was. Straight up. We had no clue. We didn’t know what it was, and we, for a period, we chose [that] we’re going to lump all the races [in together], and you see this in the tooltips in the game. ‘Minions of the Darkness.’ And we had taken all the races and said, ‘Ah, they’ll just be the Darkness.’ But that’s not what the IP deserves.

However, that does not mean that Bungie has no plans for The Darkness. According to Bungie, it is just taking a backseat in Destiny 2 until they figure out how they can make a comprehensible foe.

When we’re going to talk about Darkness next, we need to know what it is and have a plan for it. And we do.

In related news, Bungie has confirmed that the upcoming sequel will be locked at 30 FPS on Xbox One X and also clarified that the frame rate lock is because of the console’s CPU.

Destiny 2 is a first-person action shooter in development at Bungie and is scheduled to launch this fall for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
