The Destiny 2 character creator will apparently not allow Guardians to have beards, keeping at least one thing from the previous game even if it’s not our gear or abilities. Destiny’s character creator was often criticized when the game first released for supposedly being barebones, and how you couldn’t edit your character.
The confirmation comes from Lars Bakken, the lead designer of Destiny 2’s player vs player combat (meaning he works on things like the Crucible, Trials of Osiris, and more), who responded to the question when it was asked of him on Twitter.
One of the most-requested quality of life improvements for the original Destiny was the ability to edit your characters, with most players terming it a “barber shop”, so that you could add facial hair to your Guardian. No character in the game with human features actually has facial hair, even if you’re a regular human (likely to save on rendering).
However, despite the many requests, players won’t be able to give themselves beards in the Destiny 2 character creator. While there’s the possibility it might be expanded from the original Destiny (even though your character can apparently be imported), there’s no telling how much it’ll be expanded, and facial hair is still out of the question.
It’s not even that big of a problem, to be honest. Most of the time when playing Destiny your character is wearing a helmet, thus obscuring your face. The only places that you’re not wearing a helmet is in one of the game’s three social spaces, and it will likely remain that way for Destiny 2.
Destiny 2 will be releasing September 6 on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. While you won’t be able to have a beard on your character, there’s likely a lot of other cool improvements that will make the game even better.
