It is that time of the year again when both Intel and AMD have announced their upcoming CPUs and people are wondering whether they should wait for the upcoming new product or buy what is currently on the market. Here we are going to talk about whether or not you should wait for AMD Threadripper or Intel i9.
AMD has announced Threadripper which will be coming out in the Summer and Intel has announced the high-end Skylake-X CPUs with up to 18 cores. Whether or not you should wait for these CPUs depends on what you plan to do with them. If you are a gamer then I would say it is not worth the wait.
While having additional cores is great, there aren’t many games out there that take advantage of more than 4 cores and 8 threads so paying the extra money for more cores would not make sense seeing how the Intel processors cost more than $1000. You would be better off buying the mainstream Ryzen 5 or Kaby Lake CPUs.
Ryzen 5 should get the job done if you are a gamer and if you do a bit of content creation, maybe you have a YouTube channel then Ryzen 7 should be able to meet your daily needs without any issue. Anything more will be money poorly spent.
The only reason why you should wait for AMD Threadripper or Intel i9 is if you are a developer or VR content creator (anything along those lines) and need those additional cores because the applications that you use day in and day out actually use all those cores and threads. That is the only case where you should wait.
AMD Threadripper and Intel i9 are not for gaming. If you buy one of these then that would mean that money is no object and you just want the best that money can buy even if it is not at all good value for the price.
