Gunfire Games, who will be developing the third Darksiders title, have gone on record saying that the Darksiders 3 world will be the true star of the game. And, considering what they’ve shown us previously, and since they’re made up of former Vigil employees, they’ll show us that at E3.
Darksiders 3 is the third entry in the Darksiders series, and focuses on Fury, the third of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and the lone woman among them. Fury will be traveling to an Earth devastated by the Apocalypse to hunt down the Seven Deadly Sins, grave threats to Creation that have escaped their prisons.
The game will apparently take place either sometime before or at roughly the same time as Darksiders and Darksiders 2, meaning Fury will be running concurrently with her brothers as they all run around doing their own things.
Gunfire Games has previously gone on record saying that they’re going for a honeycomb style of travel with the Darksiders 3 world, mainly that Fury will be able to travel anywhere without having to worry about a loading screen. She can at one point be traveling around a massive tree that’s grown in the absence of humans, and then drop down under the streets into a bug-infested sewer.
Worldbuilding has always been an important part of the Darksiders series, and with all of the ex-Vigil devs that are a part of Gunfire (which was founded by the founder of Vigil Games, David Adams), we’ll hopefully get the Darksiders feel that we know and love when the game releases.
There’s still a while to go until Darksiders 3 is ready to release to the world, but we’ll hopefully get to see more of the Darksiders 3 world later. Darksiders 3 is supposed to be releasing sometime in 2018 for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC, and hopefully between now and then we get more information on the story, along with a lot more gameplay footage.
