Looking at the sales figures of PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, one can’t think that a few years ago analysts were predicting that console dominance will end. Well, it ain’t happening this generation and while Sony is dominating the console market but, it expects that those who buy PS4 will also buy Nintendo Switch.
Speaking with Time, Sony global game development boss Shawn Layden talked about the predictions of the end of console distance being proved wrong by the current generation of consoles saying that “console gaming has never been as big and vibrant as it is right now”.
He further added that while he does not see Nintendo Switch as direct competition but, sees it as a great success saying that “it’s definitely what that fanbase has been waiting for”. However, Sony believes that many gamers will get both consoles.
When you look at our numbers, I think it shows that a lot of gamers are a two-console family. And quite often those two consoles are PlayStation and Nintendo sitting side-by-side.
Do you think that consoles will keep dominating is the years to come? Will the console software move off the console? Let us know in the comments.
