Three New Pokemon Games Shown Off for Nintendo Switch and 3DS

The Pokemon Nintendo Direct that Nintendo did today showed off three new Pokemon games coming to the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS.

Today was the big Pokemon Nintendo Direct that Nintendo had promised, and it brought a lot of new stuff to the table in the form of three new Pokemon games. All of these games will be coming out later this year on the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS.

The first game was previously a rumor, but it has now been confirmed in the form of Pokken Tournament DX, an upgraded version of 2015’s Pokken Tournament exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. Featuring new Pokemon and new mechanics, including the ability to hold 3 on 3 team battles, online ranked play, and friend-only group matches.

Five new Pokemon will also be coming that had previously only been on the arcade version of the game in Japan: Croagunk, Darkrai, Empoleon, Scizor, and Decidueye.

The other two new Pokemon games that were revealed were Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon, which have been shown to be “updated” versions of the previous games, rather than the often-rumored “Pokemon Stars”. The games will include new areas to explore, new Pokemon that weren’t in the original games, and new designs for Solgaleo and Lunaala, which appear to have been melded with the Ultra Beast known as Necrozma.

Whether or not the games will be similar to Generation 5’s Black 2 and White 2 remain to be seen, but if you want another Pokemon journey then Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are probably something you should purchase.

However, we don’t know the full specifics about Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. We’ll likely find out more during the Nintendo Spotlight when E3 rolls around.

To see some sneak peeks of each of the new Pokemon games, you can take a look at the fairly heartwarming trailer that Nintendo put out to promote them, and be on the lookout for more information as all three games come closer to release later this year.
