Echo Fox Rallies League of Legends All-Stars for New Challenger Team

In a surprising announcement, Echo Fox has brought together five legendary faces from competitive League of Legends to form a new challenger team.

Michael “Imaqtpie” Santana, Marcus “Dyrus” Hill, William “Scarra” Li, Danny “Shiphtur” Le, and Joedat “Voyboy” Esfahani are coming out of retirement under the watchful eyes of fan-favorite coach Mark “MarkZ” Zimmerman.

It is an all-star cast (via Dot Esports), with everyone involved having long illustrious careers playing or coaching in the North American League Championship Series (NA LCS). The new challenger team of Echo Fox now looks forward to stepping on the big stage once again.

“You have to be in it to win it, and every one of these players has proved this time and time again, whether competing professionally or building their own brands and identities through livestreaming,” said owner Rick Fox in a statement. “These are tremendous athletes with tremendous identities.”

The new commitment will of course cut into the streaming time of all the players. Imaqtpie, Voyboy, and Dyrus are some of the most famous streamers on Twitch and amount to an incredibly large following. Imaqtpie reportedly brings in over $2 million a year through streaming alone. Voyboy and Dyrus crunch some mighty numbers as well. They were recently invited by Blizzard to promote Heroes of the Storm in a charity event on the account of their popularity. Shiphtur enjoys a pretty commendable streaming career as well. Finally, Scarra juggles his streaming time between his duties as a co-host of two separate talk shows.

“I said I closed the book on my professional story, but I’m opening it back up again,” said Dyrus, who left Team SoloMid a couple of years back. “I missed the energy of the crowd and the thrill of competition, and with a great player-focused organization like Echo Fox behind us, I get to focus on playing how I want to play.”

To note, all the players besides Dyrus played together on Team Dignitas at one point. Perhaps that synergy will come to play in some form.

The new challenger team of Echo Fox starts competing later this month. The management will likely be promoting the first match as much as it can. Five major all-star faces will surely drive in a steep revenue increase.
