An image leaked online earlier showing the new Assassin’s Creed Origins t-shirt. The picture gave us a look at the lead character of the game and also featured some symbols in the background. There are a lot of details here that can help us know more about Assassin’s Creed Origins.
Assassin’s Creed Origins T-shirt was spotted at GameStop and it showed the lead character. The rumored setting for the game is Egypt which has been confirmed by a number of reliable sources. However, Ubisoft is yet to confirm the news but where there is this much smoke, there is definitely some Egyptian fire.
First, let’s take a look at the shirt.
The first thing to notice is, of course, our lead character who is holding a bow in his right hand while a shield in his left hand. The shield seems to be of Greek origin, it is designed after the following shield used by the Greeks:
Similar design of the shield was also seen in a previously leaked image that was allegedly from Assassin’s Creed Origins, known as Empire at the time.
It is unusual for someone to use a shield alongside a bow as you can not use it with one hand. This indicates that we may also see melee weapons such as swords and knives to go with the shield. An Egyptian warrior would usually wield the “Deepeeka Khopesh,” which is designed with a curve near the handle.
Moving on, another interesting detail is the symbol behind the lead character. The symbol, if this is a legit Assassin’s Creed T-shirt, confirms the Egyptian setting. The symbol is called the “Egyptian Scarab” and represents Creation, Rebirth, Regeneration, Renewal, Protection.
As you know, Assassin’s Creed took some time off and this symbol may be the representation of its rebirth. But that is one theory, it may also represent something else, something in the game that we are not yet aware of.
Most of the scarab symbolism relates to early Egyptian origination myths that involved the “mound of creation” that resembles a dung beetle’s mound. When a baby scarab appeared from the mound ancient civilizations took it as an act of spontaneous creation.
The Egyptian god Khepri was depicted as a scarab or as a man with a scarab’s head. He was the solar god of the sunrise. He gained the status of the sun god due to how he pushed the sun across the sky, similar to how a dung beetle pushes, or rolls, a ball of dung across the earth.
This is represented by the round shape at the top the symbol used on the shirt. The round shape is representing the sun while the beetle is Khepri.
Khepri was worshiped in Heliopolis, a major city in ancient Egypt and was a prominent religious center. If this image and symbols are any indication than Heliopolis could be the city or one of the cities we will get to visit in Assassin’s Creed Origins.
Last but not the least, the lead character’s name is written the top right corner, Bayrek. Interesting to note, Bayrek is also a city in Bangladash which sparked speculation that the game may some ties to India but that seems far fetched.
