Square Enix Finally Comments on the Future of Hitman, The Franchise Should “Carry On”

Square Enix recently parted ways with Hitman developer IO Interactive. The publisher is looking for a buyer for the developer and wants to sell it off. This casts a shadow over Hitman’s future and its Season 2. However, it looks like the franchise will continue.

According to Square Enix, the company is engaging with different investors to make sure Hitman and other IO games to continue their development. This does not mean that Hitman Season 2 is happening for sure but it does give hope. During a financial briefing, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda said that they want these games to carry on.

Because the firm is engaged in the development of Hitman and other renowned titles, we are negotiating with prospective external investors capable of ensuring that these titles carry on.

A recent report claimed that the rights of the game will remain with IO Interactive and season 2 is finally happening. All hope isn’t lost and since Square Enix is also helping IO look for another investor, we may see the return of Agent 47 sooner than later.

Season 2 was supposed to release with new missions and locations. In a recent in an interview last year, lead writer Michael Vogt recently said that Season 1 is just the beginning.

Hitman Season 1 is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A full retail version also released earlier this year that features all of the episodes from Season 1 in one box.
