The first premium event of the 2017 Injustice 2 Pro Series took place over the weekend and was secured by none other than Dominique “SonicFox” McLean.
Recognized as the most dominant force in the competitive world of Mortal Kombat X for the past couple of years, he was speculated by many to perform equally well in Injustice 2. This was because of the similarities between both games, coming from the same developer.
Switching between Black Adam and Deadshot, SonicFox mowed through his opponents at Combo Breaker in Chicago, Illinois. He remained undefeated through the winner’s bracket, and won the grand finals against Sayed “TekkenMaster” Hashem with a tally of 3-1. He made it look easy, which is what many would term as his signature style of competitive gameplay.
Whether this marks the beginning of a new era of dominance under the watchful eye of SonicFox remains to be seen. There are still many more events remaining before we can crown a champion. As recently announced, the Injustice 2 Pro Series is made up of eighteen different events and is a long commitment to the game’s competitive scene. Combo Breaker was only the first in the series.
SonicFox leads the tally of points, with TekkenMaster in second and Frank “Slayer” Perales in third. Only the top sixteen players in the end will be invited to be part of the first championship, scheduled to be held in Los Angeles later this year. Combo Breaker was also where NetherRealm Studios announced Red Hood as the next playable downloadable character. He is scheduled for a release in June as part of the game’s first “Fighters Pack” DLC. In addition to Red Hood, the pack will feature Starfire from Teen Titans and Sub-Zero from the developer’s critically acclaimed Mortal Kombat franchise.
