A rumor has been circulating that the Sonic Mania release date has been confirmed for August 15, according to a trailer on the European version of Steam. The game is a collaboration between Sega and a number of indie developers. Sonic Mania is one of two Sonic games coming this year alongside Sonic Forces.
Originally, the game was supposed to be coming out sometime this spring. However, Sega asked for the gaming crowd’s patience as they needed more time, and the game was pushed back to summer of this year. While there wasn’t an exact date, the European version of Steam’s trailer for the game apparently said that the Sonic Mania release date would be August 15.
That hasn’t been officially confirmed by Sega, but hopefully, it’s actually accurate and the game really will release this summer. Considering that E3 is coming up in around two or three weeks, we’ll likely get the date confirmed then.
Sonic Mania will be something like the opposite of Sonic Forces. Whereas that game is a 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game that includes not only 3D environments and running, it also gives you the ability to create your own character, something that’s never been done in a Sonic game before.
In contrast, Sonic Mania is more like a traditional Sonic game, being a sidescrolling platform game much like older titles. Players will be able to pick from three characters; Sonic the Hedgehog himself, Tails the Fox, and Knuckles the Echidna, all three major characters in the Sonic franchise.
Both Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania will be releasing on all platforms, including the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. Whether or not the rumor about the Sonic Mania release date is true, hopefully, Sega will give us some more information about it sometime in the near future, hopefully at E3.
