Bungie intends to make Destiny 2 the experience what Destiny was meant to be and for that, devs have made some changes to some aspects of the game. Now, Bungie has addressed why it is good for players to start Destiny 2 from the scratch regardless if they have played the first game or not.
Speaking with VG247, project lead Mark Noseworthy explained the reason behind forcing all players to start Destiny 2 from the start saying that levelling the playing field for all players in Destiny 2 is one of the most important things for the development team.
This allows us to really break some bones with the game design. It also creates this excellent conversion point for new people, and the people who are playing Destiny 1 the day before Destiny 2 comes out, they can all play together. We think it’s more important that everyone starts from a clean slate.
He added that the team wants all players to start at the same point in Destiny 2. “Going on that journey, becoming powerful again, getting knocked down and building yourself back up, it’s really compelling. By making that brave decision it allows everyone to have that compelling journey”.
It’s a sequel so we’re looking at everything again through fresh eyes and first principles. What’s going to make the best game? It’s not about ‘we did it this way so we should keep doing it the same’. Maybe this could be better, or maybe something isn’t working just how we wanted it to and how can we improve it?
Also, Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 will have balanced exotic gear drops, they will neither be too frequent or too rare for players to acquire.
Destiny 2 is a first-person action shooter in development at Bungie and is scheduled to launch on September 8, 2017, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version of the game will launch at a later date.
