Just recently Netflix announced that it is producing the Witcher series in partnership with Polish production and visual effects studio Platige Image and Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of The Witcher novels, will serve as creative consultant. However, CD Projekt Red is not involved with the project but is still looking forward to watching The Witcher Netflix series.
Speaking with GamesRadar+, CD Projekt Red’s Radek Grabowski explained that the studio will not be involved with The Witcher Netflix series in any capacity but added that the team “wish this project all the best and are looking forward to watching the series on Netflix”.
Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of The Witcher novels, expressed his excitement for the project saying “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing”.
While Sapkowski is excited about the series but same can’t be said for The Witcher games. According to Sapkowski himself, he has nothing against the game industry and the benefits that CD Projekt Red is receiving from the game are well deserved, but the games began to spoil my market.
The belief, widely spread by CDPR, that the games made me popular outside of Poland is completely false. I made the games popular. All of my translations in the West—including the English one—were published before the first game.
However, it remains to be seen if the series will be live-action or will be completely CGI. Personally, I would like to see a CG series as it will have a better chance of creating the same feel and look of the games.
Would like to see a live-action version of The Witcher Netflix series or a CG created? Let us know in the comments.
