After 343’s confirmation from a few days ago that Halo 6 will not be showcased at E3 2017, there is now more bad news as it has been confirmed the game will be absent from Gamescom as well.
343 Industries’ Community manager Brian Jarrard originally mentioned that Halo 6 and Halo 3 Anniversary won’t be coming to E3 2017. This prompted questions on Reddit which suggested the game might make an appearance at Gamescom later this year.
Unfortunately, Brian was quick to shut those rumors down and confirmed Halo 6 will not be making an appearance at Gamescom 2017 either.
Given the way all reports of Halo 6 and Halo 3 Anniversary are being shutdown, including Halo 3’s possible release on Steam, it is highly likely that both the projects are in very early stages of development. In the case of Halo 3, it might not be in development at all.
However, 343 Industries has teased that they have a “little something” planned for E3 2017 so it remains to be seen what this mysterious new project or announcement is. Considering Halo 5 Guardians released two years, the lack of any information on the Halo 6 front is a bit scary, could spell trouble and development issues for the franchise.
However, Microsoft still seems to have faith in 343 Industries as Halo 4 started off a new trilogy and Microsoft will most likely let the developers finish it before doing something drastic with the IP or the development studio.
The extra time required could simply be 343 Industries trying to ensure Halo 6 doesn’t get the same criticism the previous games did. They have after all assured that Halo 6 would be better as the developers have learned from their mistakes.
Whether the departure of Dan Ayoub, studio head of 343 Industries will have any impact on the game or not is unclear but hopefully Microsoft’s decision to move him around doesn’t negatively impact the franchise.
