Dynasty Warriors 9 Goes Open-World – Here is Everything you Need to Know, Direct-Feed Screenshots
Koei Tecmo and Omega Force originally announced Dynasty Warriors 9 during the “Greatest Games Lineup in History” in December last year. While Koei Tecmo did share a fair amount of details, much was left to be desired. The publisher has now launched both the English and Japanese websites of the game along with another wave of details and direct-feed screenshots.
For the first time in the series, a Dynasty Warriors game is introducing an open-world format for diverse progressions through the game. The ‘one vs. thousands’ exhilarating action of the Warriors and the characters from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms tale are there but the expansive land of China shown on a single map in an open-world format will change the experience.
Critical Missions uncover and continue the player’s story that are further supplemented by other missions i.e. Regular Missions that directly affect the Critical Missions and requests from NPCs. Depending on the type of missions selected, the situation will change over the course of the game. As for battles, players will find a variety of strategies and tactics at their disposal including but not restricted to infiltrating at night, charging in, surprise attack, etc.
The world features a range of regions of China including snow plains, jungles, deserts, etc. that reflect the changing climate and the passage of time. Key cities and landmarks such as Yellow River, Mt. Song, Luoyang, and Hulao Gate are exactly replicated to provide deeper immersion and lifelike experiences.
Dynasty Warriors 9 keeps the series’ simple controls intact with a new called the “State Combo System” that allows players to react differently depending on the situation. This system is composed of three attacks: the “Trigger Attack” that starts a combo, the “Flow Attack” that extends the combo and the “Finish Attack” that concludes the combo. The “Interactive Actions” further supplement the “State Combo System” with the ability to climb walls, exploding a barrel, etc.
When it comes to characters, there are newcomers like Cheng Pu, Zhou Cang, and more. The story of Dynasty Warriors 9 revolves around a vast roster of characters; including 83 officers from the Dynasty Warriors series with new costumes. Here is an overview of different characters:
An outspoken man of integrity.
A long-term retainer and skilled General who supported 3 generations of the Sun Family and furthered the expansion of Wu territory. A brave general who fought often on the front lines but was also a trusted advisor and tactician.
A one-eyed general who supports military rule.
The cousin of Cao, he was a courageous warrior and a superb fighter despite losing an eye in battle. A calm and level-headed leader, he was dependable to a fault and was one of Cao Cao’s greatest assets in his bid for supremacy.
A military god with great integrity.
Honoring an oath of brotherhood with Liu Bei and Zhang Fei, he was an essential figure in the establishment of the Kingdom of Shu as the leader of the Five Tiger Generals of Shu. A heroic and skilled warrior with a strong dedication to what is right; he earned the respect of both friend and foe alike while at the same time, acquiring the nickname “Lord of the Magnificent Beard” from the Emperor.
A young dragon guided by the light of benevolence.
As a young warrior, he traveled the land in search for someone worthy of loyalty. Finding such qualities in Liu Bei, he ended his journey and entered Liu Bei’s service wherein he becomes one of the Five Tiger Generals of Shu. Normally a calm person, he displayed ferocity in battle that shook entire armies.
