If this recent idea presented on the official Overwatch forums is any indication, fans might be seeing the release of an Overwatch gun game mode to the incredibly popular Blizzard FPS. Of course, ideas regarding new game modes keep floating around but given the fact that game director Jeff Kaplan himself replied to this post suggests Overwatch gun game mode could definitely be something Blizzard might be serious about.
Now whether this mode becomes a reality or not remains to be seen. However, if it does happen, fans will probably have to wait a long time until it gets added to the game. Given Blizzard’s commitment to the game to deliver free content for many years to come, the Gun Game mode would definitely be a fun addition to the game’s Arcade mode which already has a lot of variety including Capture The Flag, 1v1 Mystery Duel and 3v3 Duels.
Replying to a thread, Jeff Kaplan said:
We’re big fans of gun game. We’d love to try something like this at some point.
For those who don’t know much about the game mode, Gun Game starts off every player with the same weapon and as players get kills, they continue to earn better weapons. The game mode has been pretty popular in Call of Duty and Counter-Strike so it is only natural it should come to the next big FPS for its 30 million players.
With the end of Season 4 of Overwatch coming to an end soon and reports floating around of Blizzard working on 3 new characters, 3 new maps and at least one new game mode, fans have a lot to look forward to in the next few months.
Besides the Overwatch gun game mode, there will also be regular events like the Uprising which ended recently. Considering the game’s first year anniversary is just around the corner, it is highly likely a new event will begin alongside it with the possibility of another character and map.
