Polish indie studio Destructive Creations have revealed their next project, a strategy game by the name of Ancestors, set between 10th and 12th centuries. According to the developers, the real time strategy title Ancestors is their biggest project to date and will put a lot of focus on tactical actions in both singleplayer and multiplayer.
For those wondering about the developers, they are well known for another one of their games, Hatred, which sparked off a lot of controversy a few years ago.
The game originally kicked off as a Greenlight title, was removed and then added back after an apology from the main man behind Valve, Gabe Newell himself.
Hatred, despite not being a horrible game in itself, was criticized for its depiction of violence and morality. The game basically had players killing everyone and everything, committing mass murder without thinking much about it. While that is not really a foreign concept in shooter games or even RPGs and hack ‘n slash titles, Hatred for some reason didn’t end up sitting well with critics. Thankfully, the game managed to please the audience and currently sits at a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam.
As for Ancestors, it doesn’t look like the game will be as controversial as Hatred, after all it is trying to depict historical events including wars so bloodshed and mayhem sits well within the theme. Built on Unreal Engine 4, Ancestors will allow players to choose from four factions: Vikings, Anglo-Saxon, German and Slav, tasking players to raid enemy camps and towns, basically conquering everything they see in typical RTS fashion.
According to the development team, the game should be easy enough to pick for people who are new to the genre but will also offer great depth for veterans. There is no confirmed release date for Ancestors yet but the game will be releasing on both PC and Xbox One.
