Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Is The Fastest-Selling Mario Kart Game Ever, Did You Get One?
Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Nintendo Switch version of Mario Kart 8, is apparently the fastest-selling Mario Kart game ever. Its day one sales were 459,000 units, placing it even above Mario Kart Wii back in 2008, which sold 433,000 units. Apparently, nearly half of the US Nintendo Switch users bought the game.
This comes from reports of a 45% attachment rate, which keeps track of what percentage of the Nintendo Switch consoles are running the game. This will likely help the Switch to gain more longevity, especially since now it has a good multiplayer game (along with a game other than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild).
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an enhanced version of the original Mario Kart 8 which came out on the Wii U. It adds in a battle mode with eight arenas and multiple gameplay modes, five new characters (Bowser Jr, Dry Bones, King Boo, and the male and female Inklings from Splatoon), additional karts, and more.
All of this has given the Deluxe Edition the reputation as a marked improvement over the Wii U version, which along with the Switch being a better console than the Wii U has contributed to the game’s great Day One sales. The sales will probably only get better as the game’s lifetime extends, much like the Switch itself.
However, the reason behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s sales is likely also because it’s the one high-profile Nintendo game that’s come out for the Switch since its release. Though The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild got critical acclaim and has a great deal of exploration in it, Mario Kart 8 brings some variety to the Switch for first-party titles.
If you want to add to the hundreds of thousands of Switch users that have bought Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it’s available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
