Street Fighter V will host the second beta of its overhauled Capcom Fighters Network (CFN) from May 11-14, Capcom announced.
Unlike the first time, the second round will be free for players on both the PlayStation 4 and PC platforms. However, any progress made during the limited period will not carry forward.
The developer also confirmed earlier speculations that the upcoming Street Fighter V CFN beta will include the next DLC character. While yet to be officially confirmed, a leaked description through the PlayStation Store has put the identity of the mysterious character to be Ed. He is the young boy being trained by Balrog in the story mode of Street Fighter V, and appears to possess some form of Psycho Powers that make his eyes glow purple when activated.
“We’re continuing to optimize the new and improved Capcom Fighters Network – but we want to ensure things are just right before unleashing it onto the world,” said Capcom. “To that end, we’re planning to run an additional online beta test this month, with the intent of making the official launch of the new CFN as smooth as possible.”
Last month, Capcom announced that it would be delaying the release of both the next DLC character as well as a major balance patch. The decision was based on the fact that the developer needs to do additional testing in order to further optimize its online network.
Both the character and patch will be released once Capcom is satisfied with the upcoming Street Fighter CFN beta. It will feature the Rage Quit Penalty System, Ranked and Casual Match Loading Times, Battle Lounge Country Flags, Matchmaking Improvements, Fighter Profile Stats, Country / League Based Rankings, Friend Management System, Interactive Timeline, and In-Game Announcer Voice.
