Just recently the embargo on the AMD RX 500 series GPUs was lifted, at least for the AMD RX 580 and 570. We did a review roundup of the RX 580 so check that out if you are interested. It seems AMD RX 540 is also a part of the new series of GPUs.
Just for information sake, take a look at the specs of the other cards in the lineup so that you have a better understanding where the AMD RX 540 comes in.
AMD RX 580 Specifications
AMD RX 580 is the top of the line card in the RX 500 series even though the upcoming Vega GPUs will be more powerful, this is the flagship model when it comes to Polaris. The RX 580 has the following specifications:
- 36 Compute Units
- 6.2 TFLOPS Of Computing Power
- 256-bit Memory Bandwidth
- 8 GB GDDR5
The 4 GB version of the RX 480 did not do too well and I think that is why AMD has decided not to include a 4 GB version of the new RX 580.
AMD RX 570 Specifications
AMD RX 570 is the little brother to the 580 and it has the same performance of the GTX 1060 3GB. Sure, there is a difference depending on different games but more or less the performance is on par. Specifications of the AMD RX 570 are as follows:
- 32 Compute Units
- 5.1 TFLOPS Of Computing Power
- 256-bit Memory Bandwidth
- 4/8 GB GDDR5
AMD RX 560 Specifications
AMD RX 560 is a budget GPU for people that are inclined towards playing online multiplayer games above all else. If you play DOTA2 or Overwatch then this is something that is worth looking into. It will also run some AAA games at decent frames with modest settings.
The specifications of the AMD RX 560 are as follows:
- 16 Compute Units
- 2.6 TFLOPS Of Computing Power
- 128-bit Memory Bandwidth
- 2/4 GB GDDR5
AMD RX 550
AMD RX 550 is a new GPU in the series and this is an entry level GPU that will provide you better graphics performance as compared to integrated graphics but not much more than that. There is little that you will be able to do with this GPU unless the game that you are playing is highly optimized.
We have yet to see this GPU in action so there is little that we know about it at this point.
AMD RX 540 Specifications
The AMD RX 540 is something unheard of until now. This is the first time that we are getting rumors about this GPU and you have to wonder what kind of performance it will offer. Looking at the specs it can be said that this GPU will be for the mobile platform and will not too popular on the desktop platform.
The following are the specs of the AMD RX 540:
- 8 Compute Units
- 32 Texture Units
- 16 ROPs
- 1219MHz Base Clock
- 128-bit Memory Interface
- 6Gbps GDDR5
- 4/2 GB memory
At this point, the AMD RX 540 could be a hit or miss for AMD and we do not know which market they are trying to target with the introduction of this GPU. Laptop gamers will need more power than what this GPU seems to offer.
Let us know what you think about the AMD RX 540 and the specifications that we have talked about in this article!
