When GTA V initially arrived on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, it surpassed all expectations in every sense of the word. However, the joys of everyone who bought the last-gen versions were short-lived since Rockstar Games decided to stop bringing the new content to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the game.
The decision obviously had to be made in the light of limitations imposed by last-gen consoles but it did work in Rockstar’s favor. Some fans, however, theorized that the sole reason behind the decision was to force consumers into buying the game again for Xbox One and Playstation 4.
Red Dead Redemption 2 to Receive Multiple Releases Treatment as Well?
In all honesty, the difference between last-gen version and the current-gen version of the game was massive. The difference, however, couldn’t prevent fans from picking apart the studio and begs the question as to why Rockstar didn’t opt to release the title simultaneously across all platforms after a year’s delay.
While it might appear cash-grab on Rockstar’s part, GTA V alone made Rockstar Games a massive $31.8 Million in digital sales for the month of January 2015. Now that PlayStation 4 Pro is out in the wild and Xbox Scorpio is looming over the horizon, the question that arises is whether or not can we expect something similar for Red Dead Redemption 2?
According to multiple rumors, it appears like Red Dead Redemption 2 will be hitting the store shelves sometime in October this year. Xbox Scorpio, on the other hand, is slated to launch in ‘Holiday 2017’, as confirmed by Microsoft.
It goes without saying that Red Dead Redemption 2 on Xbox Scorpio will have exclusive features – possibly extending beyond visual fidelity – as we saw in the case of GTA V on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
I, for one, am interested to see whether RDR2 will release on Xbox Scorpio as one of the launch titles or PC (fingers-crossed!) and Scorpio users will have to wait a year or two to play the game with some enhanced features and content that might never appear on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.
