Uncharted 4 Wins Game Of The Year At BAFTA, Even Above Competition

Uncharted 4 won the Game of the Year award at the BAFTA awards in England today, beating out a number of other amazing games that were released in 2016.

Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4 won Best Game at the British Academy Games Awards today, an impressive feat considering 2016 was a year of great games from a variety of developers and platforms. These range from Playdead’s Inside to Blizzard’s new shooter Overwatch, along with Stardew Valley, Titanfall 2, and Firewatch as other competitors.

The finale to the Uncharted series was the ending to Nathan Drake’s story as he teamed up with his brother to find a lost pirate colony on the island of Madagascar. Naughty Dog’s stellar writing, along with great gameplay and visuals, ensured that Uncharted would take home the gold.

However, like we said above, it wasn’t for lack of competition. A wide variety of games came out over the past year, many of which have already become classics, games that everyone plays or talks about, or that have made an impression.

For instance, Stardew Valley, a simulation where you move to the sleepy little village of Pelican Town and take over your grandfather’s farm, has been on almost everyone’s mind ever since it released in February of last year, with ports for every other platform coming out across the rest of the year. The game has since become one of the top-selling games on Steam.

Uncharted 4 may be grander in scale than Stardew, and more narrative-driven than other games like Overwatch, but with Titanfall 2, Firewatch, and Inside as other competitors along with the rest, you can’t say that the competition wasn’t extremely close.

Inside, for instance, took home four different awards: Artistic Achievement, Game Design, Narrative, and Original Property.

Other games that made won awards in the BAFTA include the team-based cooking game Overcooked, Psyonix Games’s Rocket League, Team ICO’s The Last Guardian, or other games like them and the other nominees. You can see all of the nominees for awards here.
