Get to Know the New League of Legends Mid-Season Tank Items

Yesterday, Riot Games revealed that the upcoming League of Legends mid-season update would introduce two new defensive items. Just hours after the initial announcement, the Public Beta Environment (PBE) was updated to include “Gargoyle Stoneplate” and “Adaptive Helm” in the shop.

Both items are primarily designed for champions who want to remain in the middle of fights as long as possible. In addition to their defensive values, the two items also feature unique passives and actives that can further ensure that the team’s front-line tank does not get disintegrated in an instant.

Gargoyle Stoneplate

The increased durability while surrounded by foes essentially means that the item is pretty much useless in solo play. Hence, a team must decide early on whether it needs the item for its front-line tank as the game reaches its end.

From its impressive values, Gargoyle Stoneplate may very well end up as a staple item in every tank-build following the upcoming League of Legends mid-season update.

Cost: 2,500 Gold (980 Gold Upgrade)
Build Path: Chain Vest + Negatron Cloak

  • +40 Armor
  • +40 Magic Resist
  • Unique Passive – Stone Skin: If 3+ enemy champions are nearby, grants +40 Armor and Magic Resist
  • Unique Active – Metallicize: Increases maximum and current Health by 40% and increases champion size, but reduces damage dealt by 60% for 4 seconds (90 second cooldown). If Stone Skin is active, the Health increase becomes 100% instead.

Adaptive Helm

Mages who have made it a habit to make their targets vanish in a massive burst of magic damage must rethink their approach in skirmishes. The defensive values are good enough, but the unique passive will prove vital against champions who abuse their low cooldown timers to nuke the same abilities one after another.

Cost: 2,800 Gold (880 Gold Upgrade)
Build Path: Spectre’s Cowl + Negatron Cloak

  • +300 Health
  • +70 Magic Resist
  • +100% Base Health Regeneration
  • +10% Cooldown Reduction
  • Unique Passive: Taking magic damage from a spell or effect reduces all subsequent magic damage from that same spell or effect by 15% for 5 seconds.

For those who might not know, the upcoming League of Legends mid-season update will majorly focus on balancing tanks, as well as giving them purpose and identity. Riot Games wants to see tanks do more than simply stand in the middle of fights as punching bags.
