Blizzard has confirmed that there will be no Overwatch Easter event taking place this year, making it another missed festive opportunity.
“Sorry! We don’t have plans for an Easter event this year,” stated game director Jeff Kaplan on the official forums. “But we wish all of you who celebrate a great holiday!”
Three months ago, the community was told that Overwatch will not feature any special events this year to mark the occasion of Valentine’s Day or Easter. While February passed, many were hoping to see Blizzard come around for the latter. As it turned out, the developer is still standing on its previous statement.
2017 might be a no, but there’s always next year to look forward to for an Overwatch Easter event special.
We’re assuming that Blizzard is fairly busy in preparing for the upcoming Overwatch League as well as new legendary skins for McCree and Widowmaker. According to details passed earlier this month, the alternate costume options are penned to arrive in spring. Overwatch has a knack of celebrating new skins with limited time events. Considering the legendary nature, it is likely that Blizzard will host a special Spring event for McCree and Widowmaker.
Elsewhere, the Skill Rating (SR) tracker continues monitoring regions for the 2017 Overwatch World Cup. At the end of the month, the top 32 countries with the highest average ratings will be fleshed out to compete in live qualifiers for a chance to play on the prestigious BlizzCon 2017 stage later this year.
