PlayStation 4 exclusive Action RPG Nioh was released last month, receiving several positive reviews. It is considered as a very well made game and spiritual successor to the Souls series, so it’s no wonder that its sales are going extremely good.
During a chat with the guys at MCV UK (courtesy of VG247), Koei Tecmo’s general manager Yasutomo Watanabe said that the title has sold over one million units since its release, and it’s now the most successful game ever published in the west by the studio.
It’s a triumphant return to the studio’s strengths and media, and players reacted very positively to it.
As far as development is concerned, the approach Team Ninja chose gave very important results, as they essentially included the wider public on development decisions from an early stage with the release of the Alpha demo. Making players part of this project has surely helped increase interest in the game and shape their expectations.
However, general manager Watanabe has also talked about other upcoming games by Koei Tecmo, even if he hasn’t gone deep into details.
As stated by him, people are waiting for more major IPs such as the next Ninja Gaiden, a game that’s important for the studio as well.
They know people love the franchise, and they are hoping to share good news as soon as possible.
What would you like to see in the next Ninja Gaiden?
