Fans of the Uncharted franchise are quite excited since the announcement of Uncharted The Lost Legacy. The Lost Legacy will serve as a standalone expansion and Naughty Dog has revealed why it is a standalone expansion and why they chose Chloe and Nadine as protagonists.
Naughty Dog told GameInformer that Uncharted The Lost Legacy was not planned as standalone from the start of its development. The team “contemplated” Uncharted 5 but due to The Last Of Us 2, the team settled for “something more condensed that could release in a year’s time”.
Furthermore, Sully was the main contender for the expansion but due to his age, they had to focus on a younger sully, however, Sully’s Marine background “didn’t neatly fit into what Naughty Dog wanted to explore in an Uncharted game”, and they settled for Chloe and Nadine.
We had the unique opportunity to do something that was truly stand-alone, unlike Left Behind which was like the missing chunk of the story in The Last of Us. This is something we can do completely independently while still in the same universe with the same characters, and exploring new relationships with them.
Naughty Dog originally envisioned the game to have the same scale and scope of Left Behind, but as the development started they knew they had to go bigger.
We tried to keep it small. As we started coming up with story ideas, it just became clear that with new characters and in this genre of Uncharted, it has to be big. With the gameplay stuff we wanted to explore, it felt like it needed more room to breathe.
Uncharted The Lost Legacy will launch later this year exclusively for PlayStation 4 and while the studio is yet to announce the release date, Chloe voice actor has hinted that the release date will be announced soon.
