Games Returning to Historical Periods Bring “Healthy Competition and Inspiration,” Says Battlefield 1 Director
DICE made a bold decision to take the Battlefield franchise to World War 1 in Battlefield 1 which certainly has certainly paid off as the reveal trailer itself hit a record number of likes.
Now there are rumors running wild on the internet that Call Of Duty 2017 will be set during the World War 2 and according to DICE other FPS franchises returning to historical periods is a healthy competition.
Speaking with GamesRadar, Battlefield 1 design director Lars Gustavsson talked about other FPS games returning to historical periods.
I think it’s just like Usain Bolt, if you’re running your race, yes, you should be aware of what other people are doing but you need to focus on your lane and do your race. If someone would go to the same era I welcome them. We’re all gamers and Battlefield wouldn’t be what it was without all the great game makers out there. Since that’s what inspires us, that’s what we play when we get home. I think it’s healthy competition and inspiration [which] is just good for everyone. It’s not a negative. But we’ll see. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in times to come.
In related news, DICE has confirmed that it has been tracking the issue that causes weird lighting and bloom effects that temporarily blinds players and these issues will soon be fixed.
