Earlier this month there were rumors that Blizzard Entertainment is planning to release Starcraft Remastered and now the studio has confirmed that the game will indeed launch for PC and MAC this summer.
According to Blizzard, Starcraft Remastered will feature a full graphical overhaul for the game along with support for widescreen resolutions up to 4K, while the gameplay will mainly remain untouched. According to Blizzard CEO and Co-Founder Michael Morhaime:
StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA—its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years. With StarCraft Remastered, we’re modernizing the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.
The studio has also promised improved audio for both soundtrack and dialogues. Furthermore, the game will feature comic-book style illustrations to enhance the storytelling experience for the campaign missions.
The cinematics for the game will be enhanced to 1080p resolution, and the game will also feature advanced matchmaking, cloud saving for the campaign, custom maps, support for eight new languages and more. Blizzard is yet to announce the exact release date and price for Starcraft remastered.
