Twitch, the online streaming company owned by Amazon has now hired Michael Aragon the former General Manager of PlayStation Network.
He will now report directly to Twitch CEO Emmett Shear. He will now be overseeing global broadcaster partnerships, eSports, Twitch Studios, content development and content marketing teams at Twitch.
According to Michael Aragon:
“As a lifelong fan of gaming and geek culture, it’s appealing to elevate this platform that’s focused on helping content creators thrive, as well as to explore new ways their ideas and aspirations can come to life. My goal is to foster the growth of content for Twitch’s core video-game audience, while nurturing the communities that have expanded the platform’s boundaries beyond gaming.”
These are indeed some reassuring words that will bring Twitch streamers and content creators some encouragement to do what they do best and motivate newcomers to the platform to keep on striving as Amazon clearly has plans for the platform and clear goals in mind for the future of the company.
Facebook recently gave PC users tools to do livestreams and that has posed a threat to Twitch. This could be a counter move in order to tackle the newly emerged problem. Twitch is also facing competition from YouTube which is another dominant video community.
Other recent hiring at Twitch also include Matt McCloskey, formerly COO of Microsoft’s 343 Industries, which owns the rights to the Halo franchise. He will now be the VP of commerce at Twitch a new position that has been created for him.
Twitch is aggressively hiring new members to their staff. Members that can make executive decisions on the company. It will be interesting to see what the company will have to offer in the near future and how the platform is going to tackle Facebook.
