Sony seems to be not interested at all in releasing another handheld console like PS Vita and we can’t blame the company given the situation of the market. However, NieR Automata director would like to see a successor of PS Vita from Sony Interactive Entertainment.

NieR Automata director, Yoko Taro, expressed his desire for a successor to PS Vita through a tweet, saying that while Nintendo Switch will help the handheld market but he would like to see a smaller next-generation portable device.

I want a Vita successor. While I feel a bit relieved since the Switch appeared, I’d like a slightly smaller next-generation portable game machine. I’d like to satisfy the desire that cannot be satisfied by smartphones, that don’t have physical buttons.

Just last month a New PS Vita patent emerged on the internet which would suggest that Sony might already be considering a successor to PS Vita. However, Sony is a huge company and has many patents and not all of them are put into production and we are not so sure about this one looking at how the PS Vita went.

What is more interesting is that the patent was found just a few weeks before the launch of Nintendo Switch and Sony might be considering to release a portable device to rival the Nintendo’s console.
