Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, the remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden that will be releasing on the Nintendo 3DS in April (in Japan) and in May (worldwide) has released a number of new video clips. These clips talk about some of the game’s systems, along with its characters and mechanics.
Fire Emblem Echoes, as a remake of Gaiden, tells the story of a pair of friends named Alm and Celica, who find themselves thrust into a chaotic war between the nations of Rigel and Zofia. The game will be a part of the new canon of Fire Emblem, as the continent of Valentia that it takes place on will eventually become the continent of Valm from Fire Emblem Awakening.
In the game, players will command two different armies, one commanded by Alm and the other commanded by Celica, each with its own cast of various characters including mages, clerics, archers, soldiers, and regular villagers. Both armies will be fighting battles independently of each other, which is done by the same method as other games, running into enemies as you move around the map.
In battle, terrain can give various advantages like bonuses to evasion or other stats. Magic will also work differently from more recent games. Whereas there magic was used via various tomes and scrolls, here it is cast from the health of the sorcerer, making healing them a constant priority.
Along with this, Fire Emblem Echoes will also include a Casual mode (where your characters don’t die if they’re beaten in battle), Amiibo compatibility, and brand-new characters that didn’t appear in the original game.
Fire Emblem Echoes will be releasing on April 20 of this year in Japan, and will release worldwide on May 19, exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. With Fire Emblem Warriors also coming out this year, it seems like Fire Emblem will have a good year ahead of it.
