Monolith Studios, the creators of the Lord of the Rings alternate continuity game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War, have called the Xbox One Scorpio the most powerful console ever. However, we haven’t really seen yet just how powerful the Xbox One Scorpio is.

The Xbox One Scorpio has promised a very powerful console for Microsoft’s fans, or those that might want the more impressive premium console than the Playstation 4 Pro. With six teraflops of processing power, the ability to stream and capture gameplay in 4K at 60 frames per second, and an independent power supply, the Scorpio does indeed look good.

However, we haven’t seen anything running on the console so far, and according to Xbox president Phil Spencer gamers shouldn’t want to pre-order the Scorpio until they’ve seen what it can do. Monolith’s own statement about the Scorpio being the most powerful console ever isn’t actually unfounded, either. According to the studio, Shadow of War will be one of the first games available on the Scorpio, when it comes out on August 22.

According to Monolith, Microsoft’s boasts about the Scorpio being a very powerful console aren’t exaggerations, either. While it’s possible for gamers to play the same game on all three Microsoft consoles, the regular One, the One S, and the Scorpio, they will still have different levels of power.

For instance, compared to the Xbox One’s limit of 720p resolution and thirty frames per second, the 60 frames per second and 4K resolution of the Xbox One Scorpio seems much better. Hopefully when Shadow of War and whatever other games will be available for the Scorpio come out, we’ll be able to see exactly why Monolith is calling the Scorpio the most powerful console ever.

In the meantime, we’ll have to sit and wait and hope that at E3 we’ll get to see more proof of the claim.
